Jurgen Klopp believes that consistency in results is what has allowed Liverpool to challenge for trophies and play all 63 games in a single season.

The Reds are coming to the end of a mammoth and gruelling campaign with an unprecedented quadruple still on. To win the Premier League, Liverpool must beat Wolves in Sunday’s final Premier League game and hope Manchester City drop points against Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, a cup treble is firmly in their hands. Following Carabao Cup and FA Cup success, they face Real Madrid in next weekend’s Champions League final.

Klopp has taken his Liverpool side a long way from their eighth-placed Premier League finish in his first half-season.

The Reds also lost their first three finals under the German but have since won six major honours.

Opening up on the journey in his Anfield reign, Klopp told a press conference: “Years ago when we were a bit up and down and we saw glimpses of where we could go, we realised it was all fine but we needed consistency.

“For a few years now the boys are relatively consistent and that is the only way in this league, especially with Manchester City around because they are really consistent as well.

“It’s the only chance to get close and the only chance to win something is to get close before it. That is what we are so we will see. But I know how lucky I am with this group of players we have here.”

Klopp’s side has earned comparisons with the great Liverpool teams of the 1970s and 1980s.

The German has admitted that the current Reds side “feel the responsibility” to perform. The group also “expect so much from ourselves because we see our quality”.

And even if Liverpool do not win the Premier League again, Klopp wants fans to soak up the good times.

Klopp wants Liverpool dynasty remembered

Liverpool could yet lose the league by a point to City, just as they did in the 2018/19 season.

Klopp said of history repeating itself: “I don’t remember 100% how I felt before the last game of the season and after that game, but I was fine with the situation.

“I remember walking on the lap of honour next to Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and we were just talking a bit.

“We both had a smile on our faces because it was a great season. And whatever happens on Sunday, I will not forget that it has been an absolutely fantastic season.

“So enjoy the journey is what I always say because you never know what the outcome is, so you better enjoy it now because that is what we did.”

Liverpool team one of the best

It is credit to Liverpool that they have continued to push Man City close in the league.

Indeed, without the Reds, there would likely be no title race given City’s consistency.

However, Liverpool have also added consistency to their game and, as Klopp declared earlier this season, the duo are now pushing each other to “insane levels”.

It will be a tough ask for Villa to give Liverpool a helping hand on Sunday.

Nevertheless, if the Reds win the Champions League next weekend, it will become one of the greatest seasons in the club’s history.
