Three-time Pro-bowler and Super Bowl winner Tyrann Mathieu has earned himself the credentials as one of the NFL's top safety's during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. But after spending two years in the AFC West, Tyrann Mathieu was made a free agent this offseason, and the 29-year-old has since been snapped up by the New Orleans Saints. Hailing from New Orleans himself, the move is a romantic new chapter in the 'Honey Badger's' career, and it turns out he needed hardly any convincing to join his new side. "When I watch this defense, they pop off the screen. Just with energy and passion, and all the different handshakes that they do. It's fun and it's exciting," said Mathieu. "He didn't really have to sell me too much, I was already sold. I just needed a couple people to kinda give me the, 'yeah, that's cool, we'll take you over here.'

"It's most definitely a dream - Having the opportunity to represent this team, to be a part of this locker room. "I've always been a fan of the way the Saints play football. Just to have that opportunity, means a lot to me. More than anything I just want to take advantage of it and make the most of it." Despite Mathieu staying a free agent throughout the Draft process, he suggested that the Saints move was constantly in the works, and just took some time to iron out. "I think from the get-go, I knew where I wanted to be," Mathieu said. "From there it was just about everything coming together and aligning. "It just feels good to see it all come together. I've kind of been manifesting this for a while."

With the Saints already boasting one of the best defences in the league, Mathieu will only add to a superb roster. Plus, having recorded 76 tackles, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and six passes defended last season, Mathieu can still improve past the age of 29 - "I think I'm just heatin' up," he added.
