Knicks will interview Lakers assistant Jason Kidd for head coach, per report
The New York Knicks will interview Jason Kidd for their coaching vacancy, Marc Stein at the New York Times reported on Monday.

The Los Angeles Lakers added the Hall of Fame point guard to their coaching staff in July 2019 as an assistant. The team granted the Knicks permission to interview him, per the report. Kidd played his final of 19 seasons with the Knicks.
He previously served head coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets, where he went 44-38 in the 2013-14 season immediately after retiring, and the Milwaukee Bucks. His Bucks teams went a combined 139-152 in more than three full seasons. He was fired in January 2018.
After he was in the discussions as a head coach candidate for the Lakers last offseason, new hire Frank Vogel hired him as an assistant.
Kidd has reportedly been on the Knicks short list of coaching candidates. Ian Begley of SNY reported last week the team plans on interviewing at least eight candidates and wants to wrap them up prior to the NBA’s restart at Disney World on July 30.
The list, per Begley, includes former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown, Chicago Bulls assistant Chris Fleming, Knicks interim head coach Mike Miller, former Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson and former Knicks head coach Mike Woodson. San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon is a candidate to “keep an eye on,” he reported.
The Knicks fired head coach David Fizdale in early December following a 4-18 start. Under his leadership last season the team finished 17-65.
