Almost £4m worth of shares have been created in Birmingham City's holding company Shelby Companies Limited after fresh investment was confirmed this week - and Blues could be set to benefit from even more backing from transformative owners Knighthead.

Blues have been the beneficiaries of millions of pounds from Knighthead since their takeover in the summer of 2023, from upgrading St Andrew's to significant financial input into the squad in that period.

The financial rules which are comparably stringent in the top two divisions of English football relent a little in the third tier; clubs are permitted to spend 60% of their income on player wages, although for newly relegated clubs the percentage is greater to help cushion of the fall into League One.

There is nothing, though, preventing diligent and generous owners - of which Blues boast - from injecting more capital into the club through cash donations or equity injections. Shelby Companies, created as the overarching company of which Blues is a subsidiary, have posted the latest development via Companies House.

Confirmation on there was published on Monday that Shelby Companies had allotted 3.9 million new shares at a value of £1 each, after fresh investment.

Earlier this year, Knighthead unveiled plans to build a brand new Sports Quarter having purchased the Wheels site in Bordesley Green. The Sports Quarter will include a brand new, state of the art stadium on the 48-acre site and the whole project is expected to cost up to £3bn. Blues intend to be playing in their new ground by the summer of 2029.
