The Pole, who hails from Zakopane, delighted the 5,000-strong crowd with an impressive pair of jumps.

He led after the first round, and his total score of 252.2 points was enough to condemn Olympic champon Simon Ammann of Switzerland to second place by 6.9 points. Austrian veteran Wolfgang Loitzl took third, a further 1.6 points adrift.

"My first jump today was very good, the second one was not that good but it was enough. I didn't think about the result, I just focused on my jumps,” said the 21-year-old.

Jurij Tepes, part of Slovenia’s team champions the previous evening, narrowly missed out on a podium finish – by just 0.3 points – to Loitzl.

After the first event of the summer series Kot is the overall leader, with the next event scheduled for Courchevel on August 15th.
