Chelsea are preparing an improved and official bid to sign Kalidou Koulibaly whose comments on the proposed move make great reading for Blues fans.

The Napoli colossus, 31, has emerged as a fantastic option to slot into Thomas Tuchel’s defence. Chelsea are seeking at least two new centre-halves following the free agent departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Nathan Ake and Presnel Kimpembe remain targets for the left side, though the right side could soon be locked up by Koulibaly.

Indeed, Napoli finally look ready to cash in after eight outstanding years of service. Koulibaly has just 12 months remaining on his contract and is unlikely to pen fresh terms.

Chelsea have already agreed surprising personal terms with the player. Today’s Transfer Gossip revealed a five-year deal has been agreed with Koulibaly who will pocket a net salary of around £163,000-a-week.

Koulibaly may well go on to justify a five-year deal, though contracts of that length are uncommon for players in their 30s.

Regardless, Napoli are still to accept a Chelsea bid, though Romano suggested an official one is coming.

Transfer on the “right track” – Koulibaly

He tweeted Chelsea are ready to submit a £32m bid that could ultimately rise to £33.7m pending add-ons. Chelsea have already seen an opening offer of £29.5m knocked back.

Romano hinted there is a decent chance Napoli will accept the improved proposal.

Bolstering Chelsea’s chances of securing the coup further is Koulibaly’s willingness to make the move.

The Senegalese has reportedly accepted Chelsea as his next club and recently confirmed his transfer is “on the right track”.

When quizzed by French journalist, Romain Collet-Gaudin, Koulibaly replied: “I’ll confirm that later, but it’s on the right track.”

What next for Chelsea?

An official Raheem Sterling announcement could come any time after wrapping up a £47.5m deal with Man City. Raphinha was another target in the forward line, though is on course to join Barcelona.

Hakim Ziyech is wanted by AC Milan, though the two clubs differ on the structure of deal in play.

At the back, Koulibaly will play on the right side of the back three, meaning a left centre-back must still be signed.

Romano added Chelsea continue to work on a Nathan Ake deal to bring their signings from City to two.

Chelsea could’ve re-signed Ake for £40m when he left Bournemouth in 2020. However, Frank Lampard did not rate the player highly – a view that is not shared by Thomas Tuchel.
