The Bernard Mwalala led side came into the match with 11 points, three shy of top five placement but all that seemed a mere dream when Boniface Muchiri's deflected effort gave Sony Sugar a deserved lead in the 40th minute.
After the break, Nzoia Sugar came back stronger, increasing the tempo as they searched for an equalizer. With barely five minutes to go, Elvis Rupia unleashed a fierce shot that was parried by the goalkeeper, but Victor Omondi was in the right place to bang home the rebound.
Elsewhere, Kariobangi Sharks’ Duke Abuya stole a point from ten-man Chemelil Sugar at the death to ensure the match ends 1-1. The Millers came into the match as favourites and their early efforts were rewarded in the fifth minute courtesy of John Mwita.
With ten minutes to go, Willis Ouma received his matching orders to give the visitors a one man advantage, which they fully utilized.
The tenth placed Sharks now have ten points from eight matches, three less than fifth placed Chemelil Sugar, who have played the same number of matches.
