Kris Boyd astounded by Rangers Euro heroics as he says exactly what Philippe Clement will be thinking
Kris Boyd says Rangers boss Philippe Clement will be scratching his head as to why his side can perform so well on the continent but fail to back it up with similarly impressive domestic showings.
Clement has been under considerable pressure from the Gers fans but his side ran out 4-1 winners in a dominant and resounding display in the Europa League. The Light Blues have rarely had their troubles to seek domestically but they often turn up when European competition time rolls around — and Thursday evening was no different, with yet another thumping win.
Vaclav Cerny, one of their form players this season, put them ahead before strikes from Mohamed Diomande and Hamza Igamane had them three to the good prior to the interval. The latter struck again in the second half, with Nice's Badredine Bouanani whipping in an impressive free-kick but it was scant consolation for the hosts. Boyd reckons his former side deserve "a lot of credit" for their win, but admits the side are currently performing like "two different teams" when it comes to domestic and European football.

Boyd told Sky Sports: "It was a bit of both to be honest [between brilliant Rangers and a horror show for Nice]. I mean, Nice were very poor, but I think you've got to give Rangers a lot of credit to go away from home and score four goals. And by the way, it should have been six or seven, they had some golden opportunities.
"Cyriel Dessers missed an absolute sitter at the end and then there was a few opportunities on the break, like three-vs-one, three-vs-twos, that they failed to pick the correct pass but a good night for the Rangers in Europe, they needed this. Not only a result, a really good performance and that's what Philippe Clement got for his team.
"He had big decisions to make at the start of the game, Cyriel Dessels has been his main striker, especially in Europe, scored the last time in Olympiacos, he leaves him out, brings in the youngster in Igamane and he scores two goals and I thought he was really good on the night, his link-up play was very good, brought the others into play.
"Straight from the kick-off, they were down the right-hand side and Cerny managed to get a shot away and you could see that was the trend that was happening for Rangers, Cerny in the score sheet again and Diomande with a tidy finish, really poor defending from Nice but Rangers won't care.
"To go away from home in Europe, score four goals, should have been more, they'll be absolutely delighted and you know, Philippe Clement will probably just be sitting there thinking to himself why can't I get this level of performance at home, domestically away from home and at Ibrox because it just seems like two different teams. The performances away from home in Europe have been excellent but at home domestically it's been really poor."
