Kris Boyd Celtic dig falls flat as Sky Sports host quickly corrects Rangers hero
Kris Boyd couldn't resist having a cheeky pop at Celtic's European struggles in recent years.
But the Rangers legend was put in his place by Sky Sports presenter Rob Wotton after getting his facts mixed up. Boyd was invited onto the channel's Football Show this morning to preview tonight's Champions League showdown with Slovan Bratislava at Parkhead.
The pundit confessed that Brendan Rodgers' side have a golden opportunity to embark on a memorable campaign after years of underperforming in Europe's top competition. He said: "I think they've got more of a chance of qualifying because of the new format. With the home games, Celtic will fancy themselves to pick up some decent points.

"They've got some difficult away games but you look at Dinamo Zagreb last night, Celtic have got to think 'Can we go to Croatia and get something or beat them?'. Take RB Leipzig out of it, the other three home games gives Celtic a really good chance of picking up victories."
But Boyd attempted to seize on an opportunity to mock Celtic's recent record of reaching the knockout rounds, having failed to progress past the Champions League group stages in 12 years. He teased: "I think the draw has been kind to them, the format has definitely enhanced their chances of qualifying for that knockout stage shall we say? Celtic fans might get to see their team play in Europe after Christmas... it's not happened for a while..."
Of course, the revamped league phase format means Celtic's Euro campaign will continue into January at least as all teams play eight games instead of six. And host Wotton was quick to point that out, adding: "Yeah... the league goes beyond then. You naughty man."
