Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has named former Liverpool star Sadio Mane as one of the toughest opponents he's faced in his career.

Mane enjoyed a successful career with the Reds which began after he arrived from Southampton in 2016 as one of Jurgen Klopp's first summer signings as manager. The Senegal international went on to score 120 goals across 269 appearances for Liverpool and won six major trophies along the way.

After six years on Merseyside, Mane decided to leave Liverpool to join Bayern Munich in 2022. His stay in Germany would only last a year before he signed for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League nearly 12 months ago.

During Mane's time at Liverpool, he was part of several famous fixtures against Man City, whether that be in the Premier League, FA Cup or the Champions League. While on the left wing, Mane would often face off against Walker at right-back for Pep Guardiola's side.

Walker has named some of the toughest opponents in his career and began by explaining why former Chelsea star Eden Hazard and ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar are two of his picks. The Man City defender went on to explain why Mane is also deserving of the accolade as one of his toughest-ever opponents.

“Sadio Mane was a nightmare for me," said Walker on The Icebreaker podcast. “He was more raw, he had certain movements he would do.

"I think he was playing in a very good Liverpool side, with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who was dropping deep.

"He was good, even at Southampton. But that's why you go and move to Liverpool."
