In an off-season littered with big money contracts, the latest came in Arizona where quarterback Kyler Murray signed a hefty extension. Murray signed a five-year contract extension with the Cards, with the estimated value of the deal lying at around $230million, with $160million in guarantees. The deal ensures Murray stays at the State Farm Stadium until 2028, by which point he'll still only be 31 years old. Murray worried Cardinals fans at the tail end of last season by scrubbing his social media of anything related to the franchise. But while it took both parties a while to agree terms, the former No.1 Draft pick has now cemented his future in Arizona.

Murray's new deal sees him land just short of pipping Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes to becoming the highest paid player in the NFL. Murray's $46.1million per year is pipped only by Mahomes' $50million annual salary. A breakthrough in negotiations came when Murray showed his maturity by attending organised team activities with the Cardinals, seemingly swaying the franchise to offer him his preferred terms.

Still only 24 years old, Murray will be looking to build on the Cardinals' superb start last season and put together a lengthy play-off run in 2022/23. The Cardinals raced to the top of the standings with a 10-2 start in their last campaign, but tailed off at the end of the calendar year. With his future now secure and his full focus on Arizona, Murray will have his sights set on starting brightly again, when his Cardinals side face the Chiefs on September 11 in their season opener.
