Lady Chargers roll to MHC title with win over Lancers

Jan. 26—EDINBURGH — If there was any doubt in the outcome of the Lady Chargers' game at Edinburgh prior to tip-off, North Decatur quickly put an end to that with a 23-3 first quarter en route to a 63-20 victory.

With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 16-6 and win the MHC title with a perfect 6-0 record. This is the 11th conference title overall and second straight for North. Edinburgh drops to 3-20 overall and 1-5 in the MHC.

After the big opening quarter, the Lady Chargers extended the lead to 40-14 at the half. A 14-4 run by North in the third quarter sent the teams to the fourth quarter with the Lady Chargers in front 54-18.

North's balanced offensive attack saw eight players enter the scoring column.

In her final MHC contest, North's Ella Kunz led all scorers with 18 points.

Kelsey Haley knocked down a trio of 3-pointers en route to nine points for the Lady Chargers. Carmen Thackery and Clare Kinker both chipped in with eight points. Sydney Rohls added eight points.

Madi Allen had six points. Ally Whitaker scored four points and Jo Whitaker scored two points.

For the game, the Lady Chargers connected on 14-of-19 from the free throw line. Edinburgh was 5-of-8.

North hosts the Sectional 45 and will play Milan at 6 p.m. Friday.

In the junior varsity game, the Lady Chargers cruised to a 54-17 victory to finish the season at 14-7 overall and 5-0 in the MHC.

Thackery led the way for the Lady Chargers with 11 points. Rohls added nine points followed by Jewel Verseman eight points, Sarah Moeller seven points, Ally Whitaker seven points, Brooke Mauer six points, Emma Schoettmer four points and Libby Crawford two points.
