Lady Pirates open softball season with win

Mar. 20—The Lady Pirates softball team traveled to Tri to open the 2024 season. Freshman Harper Adams allowed just three hits while striking out 13 Lady Titans in the 4-0 Greensburg win.

In her seven innings in the circle for the Lady Pirates, Harper Adams allowed no runs on three hits and two walks to go with the 13 strikeouts.

Tri's Ashton Richie took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (no earned runs) on five hits with four strikeouts in four innings.

Both teams went down in order in the first inning. Greensburg's four runs came in the second inning. Alexis Condon doubled to start the top of the inning. Kirkley Lowe reached on a dropped third strike, advancing Condon to third. A bunt by Kamryn Haas plated Condon with the first run of the game on the fielder's choice.

Lowe and Haas moved up a base to third and second. A passed ball allowed Lowe to score to make it 2-0. Addyson Dolan reached on an error and Haas came in to score to extend the lead to 3-0. Another Tri error on the Harper Adams ground ball scored Dolan to make it 4-0.

Greensburg looked to add to the lead in the top of the third with back-to-back singles by Condon and Lowe. The Lady Pirates could not push across another run.

Dolan and Harper Adams singled for the Lady Pirates in the fourth, but were stranded. Emma McQueen singled for the Lady Pirates in the seventh inning.

Offensively for Greensburg, Condon had a double and a single. Harper Adams, McQueen, Lowe and Dolan all had a single. Haas had the lone RBI and Dolan finished with two stolen bases.

The Lady Pirates travel to Madison Wednesday, March 27.
