Lady Pirates go undefeated in EIAC

Jan. 26—GREENSBURG — Coming into Thursday's season finale and Senior Night against EIAC foe Lawrenceburg, the Lady Pirates had already clinched the conference title, win or lose. The Lady Pirates put a clamp on the title with a 68-21 victory over the Lady Tigers.

Class 3A No. 7 Greensburg improves to 18-4 on the season and 7-0 in the EIAC. Lawrenceburg drops to 13-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Greensburg opened the scoring with a rebound bucket by Leah West. A pair of Natalie Knigga for Lawrenceburg tied the game 2-2. After another West bucket, senior Carlee Adams drained a deep 3-pointer for a 7-2 lead.

Knigga stopped the Lady Pirates run with a bucket in the lane, but that was all for Lawrenceburg the rest of the quarter. Greensburg scored the next 11 points started by a traditional three point play by Mylie Wilkison and capped by two Claire Larrison free throws. After one quarter, Greensburg led 18-4.

Greensburg's Aly Powers connected from long range to open the second quarter and extend the lead to 21-4. Aubree Labazzo got the Lady Tigers on the board with a pair of free throws. Adams hit another deep 3-pointer for Greensburg followed by a Knigga 3-pointer for Lawrenceburg and another bomb by Adams to make it 27-9 in favor of the Lady Pirates.

After a Labazzo bucket for the Lady Tigers, Greensburg ran off the next 17 points. West scored off the Adams' assist to get things rolling. Wilkison's bucket on the break pushed the lead to 34-11. Powers scored the next seven points, including a traditional three point play. Mary Harmon added a free throw to close the first half with Greensburg in control, up 44-11.

The second half was much like the first, adding a running clock. The Lady Pirates outscored Lawrenceburg 24-10 through the final two quarter to secure the big 68-21 win.

Greensburg's defense held Lawrenceburg to 17 percent shooting from the field, including 1-of-13 from 3-point land. The Lady Pirates forced 19 turnovers and scored 23 points off those turnovers. The Lady Pirates shot 45 percent from the field and 75 percent from the charity stripe.

Greensburg had four players score in double figures: West 15, Wilkison 15, Powers 14 and Adams 12. Harmon added eight points. Emma McQueen and Larrison both had two points.

West finished with a team-high nine rebounds. Larrison pulled down eight rebounds. Larrison dished out a team-high five assists and Powers had a team-high four steals.

Lawrenceburg was led in scoring by Knigga with 11 points. Labazzo added six points and Mock had four points. Elliana Fox and Lexie Elza both grabbed five rebounds. Labazzo dished out a team-high three assists.

The Lady Pirates open sectional action at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Franklin County (14-7) at Lawrenceburg.
