Feb. 6—The Lake Cumberland Run/Walk Series Powered by Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital held its annual year-end banquet recently to celebrate its amazing 2023 run and walk season.
The 2023 run and walk series had a great year, as 1,489 participants covered a combined 9,464 miles over the course of 13 races. Every returning race on the schedule also had a higher amount of participants than it did in 2022.
To kick the night off, Dr. Laura Pederson from LCRH explained the importance of how exercising often can lead to a healthy lifestyle.
Lindsey Jones Sexton then gave an inspirational story about completing the No Business 100 while battling breast cancer. She encouraged everyone to challenge themselves each and every day.
After an inspiring speech by Sexton, awards were given to the top three finishers in both the male and female age group categories.
Awards were also given to the top three team finishers for the year. Scrambled Legs finished first, Spectrum Running Club grabbed second, and Phoenix Racing came home in third.
The 2024 run and walk season begins with the SWJC Snowshoe Shuffle on Saturday, February 24th, at Somerset Community College.
