LeBron James will reportedly change back to No. 6 jersey following 'Space Jam' release
LeBron James will change his jersey number from No. 23 back to No. 6 next season, The Athletic's Shams Charania and Tim Cato reported.
The Los Angeles Lakers star will reportedly make the change following the release of "Space Jam: A New Legacy," which hits theaters in July. It features James in a No. 6 Tune Squad jersey.
Anthony Davis will keep his No. 3, per the report. Davis wore No. 23 at Kentucky and with the New Orleans Pelicans before joining the Lakers.
James in the No. 6 jersey
James last wore the new number while with the Miami Heat and won titles in 2012 and 2013.
When he returned to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he swapped back to No. 23. The franchise won its first title with James' leadership in 2016.
He has only worn No. 23 in Los Angeles, which he joined in the 2018 offseason.
James-Davis had jersey swap in place
When Davis was traded to the Lakers in June of 2019, James promised to swap the No. 23 to his new teammate. But Nike had already made too many James No. 23 jerseys and the Lakers had already missed the jersey swap deadline.
Davis settled on No. 3 and the two planned on swapping in a year when they were able. The swap was reportedly called off after they won the NBA championship in 2020, though James still teased his own jersey switch on an Instagram story that December.

The movie features basketball stars Klay Thompson as Wet-Fire, Davis as The Brow, Damian Lillard as Chronos, Diana Taurasi as White Mamba and Nneka Ogwumike as Arachnneka.
Los Angeles Sparks star Ogwumike discussed her experience on the film as the first guest on sister and teammate Chiney Ogwumike's self-titled ESPN podcast out Tuesday.
