LaLiga ace chooses Arsenal over Man Utd and Real Madrid, with release clause making Arteta coup a breeze
An Arsenal deal for a Spaniard taking LaLiga by storm this year is there for the making after the player indicated he’d rather join the Gunners over other interested clubs like Man Utd and Real Madrid, per a report.
One might expect Real Madrid and Barcelona players to have a stranglehold on the LaLiga Player of the Month award. However, February’s edition went to Celta Vigo hotshot Gabri Veiga who is blazing a trail through the Spanish top flight this season.
Veiga plays primarily in a central role either in midfield or further forward behind the striker. The 20-year-old bagged four goals and an assist in February to bring his tally for the season to eight.
What makes those figures stand out even more is the fact Veiga only became a regular starter with Celta in October. As such, he’s currently returning a goal contribution every 131 minutes in LaLiga.
Unsurprisingly, Veiga’s exploits have not gone unnoticed. Aside from Real Madrid, the English vultures have begun to circle too.
Man Utd and Arsenal were mentioned alongside summer swoops for Veiga by AS in late-February.
Responding to the speculation, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano later confirmed Veiga is indeed being monitored by multiple top clubs. Romano did not deny Arsenal and Man Utd were among them.
Now, according to Spanish journalist, Manu Sainz, in the event Veiga does leave Celta Vigo, he’s likely to join Arsenal.
That’s because Sainz revealed that Veiga “dreams” of joining the Gunners when speaking on Diario AS’ show on Twitch. Per the reporter, Arsenal are Veiga’s favourite overseas side.
Making a move to north London all the smoother is the fact Veiga’s current deal with Celta contains a release clause.
The clause is set at €35m (approx. £31m) – a sum that may quickly prove far below his true market value if Veiga continues to tear up LaLiga this season.
