LaLiga table, 2019/20 final standings: Real Madrid champions as Barcelona lose title

Karim Benzema's double clinched a 34th LaLiga title for Real Madrid on Thursday night as Barcelona's hopes of a slip-up failed to materialise.

Benzema's first-half strike and a penalty after the break at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium secured a 2-1 win over Villarreal, for whom Vicente Iborra scored seven minutes from time, and handed manager Zinedine Zidane the trophy he had targeted on his return to the club in March last year.

However, Real would have been crowned champions anyway after Barcelona, who had won the league for the last two seasons, surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to Osasuna.

Barca rounded off their season on a high note with a 5-0 win at Alaves, while Real were held to a 2-2 draw by Leganes, who were relegated to the second tier.
