Last of England IPL players to land back in UK after tournament postponed

Dawid Malan was due to land back on home soil today as the last of England’s returning IPL players, with Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan heading to the Caribbean for a break.

The IPL was postponed on Tuesday due to the worsening Covid-19 situation in India.

Eight England players landed yesterday, with Malan – who had played for Punjab Kings – returning today to head straight into 10 days’ quarantine.

Jordan has gone to Barbados, where he grew up, for a break, with Morgan also heading to the Caribbean.

Morgan is on a white-ball only contract with Middlesex, meaning his next competitive cricket is the Vitality Blast London derby against Surrey on June 10. His wife and child are in her native Australia, opening up the possibility of spending some time in the Caribbean resting and training.

While Australia’s IPL players are travelling en masse to the Maldives so they can return home (there is a travel ban from India to Australia until May 15 at least), the New Zealanders – including Kane Williamson – will travel straight to England next Tuesday ahead of the Test series next month.

They will be without Trent Boult, who is heading back to New Zealand to spend time with his family, meaning he will miss at least the First Test at Lord’s, and perhaps the Second at Edgbaston.
