Arne Slot will be hoping for some positive injury news over the international break ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Southampton next weekend.

The Reds are currently top of the league standings after 11 games with nine wins, one draw and just one defeat so far. They are five points clear of rivals Manchester City in second, and nine ahead of Arsenal in fourth.

They are also top of the Champions League table with four games played, and they are in the quarter-finals of the League Cup. What will be most pleasing for the Liverpool boss, is his side have maintained their good form despite injuries to a handful of key players.

Trent Alexander-Arnold started the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa before the break, but was withdrawn after 25 minutes due to injury. The right back didn't join up with England for their Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, but it is believed he avoided a serious injury.

Alexander-Arnold faces a race against time to be fit for Liverpool's blockbuster clashes against Real Madrid and Manchester City in just a matter of weeks, but it remains to be seen whether he will return in time for next weekend's meeting with Southampton.

Alisson, on the other hand, has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since the victory over Crystal Palace at the beginning of October. Caoimhin Kelleher has stepped up impeccably in his place, but the Brazilian shared an update of his own at the beginning of the international break with a snap at the AXA Training Centre, complete with the caption: "-1," along with a sand timer emoji.

Slot has previously indicated a return after the November internationals is a possibility, and the same can be said for striker Diogo Jota, who sustained an issue during the 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield last month.

Federico Chiesa, who joined the club from Juventus in the summer, isn't necessarily injured but is undergoing a mini pre-season in order to reach the fitness levels needed to play in the Premier League.

“Once he is at that physical level we will benefit from having him," Slot told journalists earlier this month. “At this moment we expect him back during the international break and then he should be with us after the international break normally.”

Longer-term absentee Harvey Elliott has been absent since September after suffering a fractured foot while on international duty with one of England's youth teams. No exact timeline has been placed on the 21-year-old's return, but having recently returned to training on the grass, it shouldn't be too far away.
