Latest Liverpool injury news with Virgil van Dijk decision and Trent Alexander-Arnold wait
Liverpool will be facing a nervous wait to discover if Virgil van Dijk will be available for his weekend's clash against Southampton. The Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday against the Saints in their first match after the November international break.
Van Dijk was one of several Liverpool players to link up with their respective national teams during the break. However, the Reds captain withdrew from the Netherlands squad on medical grounds and is now back on Merseyside.
It was confirmed by Liverpool that Van Dijk will be assessed by the club's medical team at the AXA Training Centre this week. It will then be determined if the centre-back will be fit to face Southampton at the weekend.

Van Dijk is one of several injury concerns for Liverpool going into the trip to St Mary's this weekend. Trent Alexander-Arnold was not part of the England squad during the international break after suffering a hamstring injury during the win over Aston Villa.
It was later confirmed, though, that the Liverpool's vice-captain had avoided any serious injury and was not expected to spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines. It remains to be seen, though, whether or not Alexander-Arnold will be fit to face Southampton this weekend.
"That is difficult to say how serious it is," Slot told reporters after Liverpool's win over Villa on November 9. "But it is always a serious injury if a player goes out in the first half. Not because I didn’t like him but he asked (to be substituted) himself. He asked for it because he felt something.
"So that is first of all not a good sign. It is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is but let’s wait and see."
Alisson Becker is also on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and has been unavailable since October. Liverpool will hope to have the Brazilian return in the weeks after after the international break.
Diogo Jota has also been recovering from a rib injury he suffered against Chelsea in October. The Portugal international is not expected to return until December.
Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott have spent the majority of the season on the sidelines with their respective injury concerns. Chiesa has been building up his fitness following a summer move from Juventus, while Elliott suffered a fractured foot back in September.
