Latta boys tee off with Tishomingo title win

Mar. 28—TISHOMINGO — The Latta High School boys golf team got its season started on the right foot by winning the Tishomingo Invitational Monday at the Tishomingo Golf and Rec Club.

Latta shot a team score of 296 and finished 20 strokes ahead of runner-up and host Tishomingo. The Indians were runners-up at 316 and Atoka placed third at 353.

LHS teammates Rhett Gray and Teegan Lancaster finished tied at the top of the medalist list with identical scores of 72. Hagen Sallee of Tishomingo was third with a 75 and two more LHS players — Carter Dotson and Parker Pogue — finished tied for fourth with scores of 76.

Sam Brown carded a 97 for the Panthers, who competed in the Seminole Invitational on Wednesday. The Byng Pirates were also in that field.

Byng girls settle for fourth at Seminole event

SEMINOLE — The Byng High School girls golf team finished fourth Monday at the Seminole Invitational Tournament hosted by the Jimmie Austin Golf Course.

Eufaula won the team title with a score of 415 followed by Oklahoma Christian Academy at 445 and the host Seminole squad at 460. Byng finished with a team total of 473.

"We were in second place for the first half of the tournament but ran into some hiccups in the second half," said Byng head coach Jonathan Valdez. "It was very wet and windy, but the girls played hard and battled throughout the day. I am super proud of them."

Avery Haddock of Oklahoma Christian Academy and Elle Standlee of Prague finished tied atop the medalist standings with identical scores of 80.

Byng freshman Brooklyn Ross finished in eighth place with a score of 106. Allie Gilleland was 12th at 112. Rylee Haynes shot a 124 and Lana Glover finished with a 131.

The Lady Pirates return to action on April 4 at Sulphur.
