Presenter Laura Woods has responded to claims from one of her talkSPORT colleagues that Arsenal have benefitted from “huge luck” this season.

The Gunners have recovered from last month’s dip in form and they are back clear at the top of the Premier League.

They have won three games in a row, with Wednesday night’s 4-0 victory over Everton extending their advantage over Manchester City to five points.

Arsenal were back to their best in midweek as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard got on the scoresheet against Sean Dyche’s side.

The London outfit have surpassed expectations this term after they failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Over the course of this campaign, Arsenal have clearly been the best team in the Premier League, but talkSPORT journalist Adrian Durham has claimed that they have been afforded a “huge amount” of luck.

“Well, Arsenal are good, no question about that,” Durham said on talkSPORT before Arsenal’s win over Everton. “But the definition of lucky is something that goes in your favour that you don’t control.

“It’s a wonderful thing, we all love a bit of luck now and then. Arsenal are having a huge amount of it just lately.”

To back up his statement, Durham pointed out that Arsenal beat Man Utd 3-2 in January when their rivals were without Casemiro.

Also that Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister were missing for Brighton when Roberto De Zerbi’s side lost 4-2 to the Gunners on New Year’s Eve.

Durham also reminded listeners that Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison missed Arsenal’s away games against rivals Tottenham and Leicester respectively, while Liverpool’s Luis Diaz suffered a mid-game injury versus the Gunners.

He did not stop there as he later highlighted Emiliano Martinez’s unfortunate own goal last month during Arsenal’s 4-2 victory at Villa Park.

“Little things make big points and they’re falling right into Arsenal’s lap,” Durham concluded. “The joke is over now, no team deserves this much luck, it’s ridiculous.”

Woods is an Arsenal supporter and she was quick to hit back at Durham via Twitter.

“Let’s be honest… you can make a case like this for or against any team in any league in the history of football if you really have a lot of time on your hands and a secret Arsenal fetish.”

Arsenal will look to continue their good form when they host Premier League strugglers AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates this weekend.

They face Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League last-16 this month, while they face Fulham and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
