Shillong Lajong, at the bottom of the table with 10 points from 16 games, are going into the match at the back of a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of East Bengal. However, the Reds had earned victory in their previous two matches which included a win over Churchill Brothers.
Lajong have conceded 44 goals in 16 matches and their defence will once again be tested against a free-scoring Chennai City. The likes of Pedro Manzi and Nestor Gordillo have been difficult to handle for most defences in the league and Lajong's being one of the weakest will face a stern test.
Alison Kharsyntiew faces an uphill task to guide his team out of the relegation spot and to contain Chennai City, the coach must pull off something extra-ordinary.
Samuel Lalmuanpuia is a key player of his team and his set-piece abilities being well-known. If Lajong wants to get something from the match, the skipper must step up to the occassion.
On the other hand, Akbar Nawas will be rallying his troops with only one target - three points. After a blowing a 3-0 lead against NEROCA, the coach must ensure that his backline has plugged in the gaps.
With fitness of Roberto Eslava still uncertain, the onus will be on Gourav Bora and Regin M to marshall the defence. But having Mauro Boerchio under the sticks instead of an inexperienced Kabir Taufiq will make a difference. Boerchio has been signed rom NEROCA as a replacement for the injured Nauzet Santana.
The coach can hand a start to Pravitto Raju in midfield who has put in decent performances in his limited opportunities.
But all eyes will be on the Spanish trident of Manzi, Gordillo and Sandro Rodriguez who have been brilliant in the attacking third. They have combined well to unlock sturdy defences and Aibanbha Dohling and Kenstar Kharsong will have to at their best.
Can Shillong Lajong make use of the home advantage and get a win or will Chennai City get back to winning ways?
