The versatile defender, who can play in either full-back position or in midfield, arrived from Hull on Thursday on a deal until the end of the season.
And East may well start at Priestfield, where the Gills have won just two of their last nine, with boss Martin Allen looking to make some changes to his starting XI.
"It's not as if we're playing dreadfully (at home) but it's got to get better, we've got to improve it," Allen said.
"We've got to look at improving it and deal with it better, we'll make some changes this weekend because we haven't got the results we've wanted when we've been playing here. So other people will now get a chance."
Elsewhere, forward Myles Weston (foot) is rated as 50/50 to make his comeback while midfielders Andy Frampton (concussion) and Charlie Allen (wrist) are not quite ready to return.
