Gillingham fell to a 1-0 home defeat courtesy of Barnet earlier in the afternoon, which meant Louis Dodds and Tom Pope goals brought Vale closer to the league summit despite Kieran Agard pulling one back for Rotherham.

Jake Hyde’s only goal of the game at Priestfield helped steer Barnet further from the drop zone, where Bristol Rovers and AFC Wimbledon remain.

The London club’s fixture against Northampton was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch while Rovers could only muster a 2-2 draw at Aldershot.

Southend romped to a 3-0 away victory against Essex rivals Dagenham and Redbridge, while Bradford City continued their strong season in all competitions with a 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley.

Plymouth and Torquay draw 1-1 at Home Park, Burton saw off Rochdale 3-2 at the Pirelli Stadium and Fleetwood Town also recorded a home victory, beating Morecambe 1-0.

Cheltenham thrashed Wycombe 4-0, Chesterfield also brushed aside their visitors, York City, 3-0, and Oxford United pulled off a 3-1 win at Exeter.
