Leandro Trossard injury update as Arsenal left sweating ahead of Nottingham Forest
Mikel Arteta will perhaps be again pulling his hair out at the realisation that yet another one of his Arsenal players has been injured while on international duty. Leandro Trossard came off for Belgium in their 1-0 defeat to Israel.
Having started the second game of this break, he was removed after just 37 minutes. Despite looking uncomfortable for a period, the winger was forced to come off and replaced by Johan Bakayoko.
Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco spoke after the game, to provide an update on the Arsenal forward. "I believe we had 21 injured players in the previous qualifying stage, and today we lost Leo Trossard and Zeno Debast to injuries," he said as quoted by UEFA.
"We had a team that had never played together, never trained together. We started well, but ultimately, under really difficult circumstances, this is not the result we hoped for, and that's why we are very disappointed."
He added: "The mentality of the players who were here tonight. Some of them played 90 minutes three days ago, and tonight were more or less obliged to play 90 minutes today also.
"The lessons learned in general are, and what was also part of the plan, was to get to know a lot of players now, because in March we will be there." Yet despite plenty of detail here about why his side failed to win, there was little in the way of detail on Trossard.
It is quite the rarity for Trossard to suffer with any injury issues. Since his arrival at Arsenal in January 2023, he has missed just one game through injury which was the 2-2 draw with Spurs last season.
The hope for Arsenal will be it is not too serious, especially as Bukayo Saka was unable to complete the clash with Chelsea and subsequently pulled out of the England squad. The question now is when an update will be given by the club.
Arteta faces the media at the end of this week for his usual pre-match press conference. Trossard will be one among many that reporters are hoping to hear an update on ahead of the clash with Nottingham Forest.
The aforementioned Saka is of course another, as is Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney. Arsenal take on Forest at 3pm UK time on Saturday, November 23.
