Leeds United have looked in depth into the potential signing of Strasbourg defender Gerzino Nyamsi, according to reports from France.

It has already been a busy summer transfer window for Leeds. Jesse Marsch has reunited with Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen, while also welcoming Marc Roca to his squad.

As such, Leeds have bolstered their ranks in attacking midfield, at right-back and in the centre of the park. But there are other areas they could still seek to strengthen.

After conceding the most goals in the Premier League other than bottom side Norwich City last season, Leeds may have their eyes on further reinforcements in defence.

According to the French version of Goal, Leeds are among the suitors for Nyamsi, who started 33 Ligue 1 matches last season. It was his debut campaign with Strasbourg after joining from Rennes, but it may also have been his last.

Nyamsi has been attracting clubs outside France with his performances. For example, Napoli have held a relatively long-term interest in taking him to Serie A.

However, Nyamsi could end up in the Premier League instead. It is claimed by Goal that Newcastle, but “above all” Leeds, are considering a move for the 25-year-old, who is under contract with Strasbourg until 2025.

Impressive in the air and strong in duels, Nyamsi has characteristics that could translate well to the Premier League. Hence, the likes of Leeds are carrying out their checks on him.

Currently, Marsch can call upon Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper at centre-back.

Meanwhile, rival suitors Newcastle are looking for a stronger partner to Dan Burn than Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark or Federico Fernandez.

But when it comes to Nyamsi, it is Leeds who have studied the target “in more depth”. No asking price is yet apparent.

Gerzino Nyamsi may be useful as Leeds seek centre-back

Although arguably not their biggest priority, Leeds could make use of a new centre-back this summer if funds are available. Potential sales of midfielder Kalvin Phillips and winger Raphinha could increase their transfer budget.

In turn, investing in their defence could be a good decision. Captain Cooper is in his 30s now, whereas Struijk is at the other end of the spectrum and still showing some inexperience.

Koch has had a range of injury issues since joining in 2020. Therefore, Llorente is the only one Leeds can really depend on – but he is not infallible either.

There would be more stability with another option among the ranks. Whether Nyamsi is someone they pursue will only become clear in time.
