Leeds coach Rohan Smith has confirmed that centre Harry Newman will make his return from injury when they travel to Huddersfield on Friday.

The 22-year-old has only made one appearance for the Rhinos so far this season due to injury.

Newman, who will be hoping to push for an England place at the World Cup, has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in their 34-18 win at Wakefield on March 3.

But the livewire centre will make his return to play in Friday’s clash with neighbours Huddersfield.

Harry Newman will play, says Rhinos boss

Leeds coach Rohan Smith said: “Harry will be playing.

“I expect him to play well, he’s been training hard and he has been training with intent.

“It has been a really balanced programme that has been put together for him. The club have been working hard with him to get him not only into good physical shape, but good football shape. I’m expecting him to play well.

“He’s been doing a lot of training in the last couple of weeks. He has been around it adding his energy and personal touch to the situation so he has certainly contributed to the quality of our practice and environment over the last couple of weeks. The next step is for him to be physically part of it on game-day.

“He has got the ability to turn small things into big things. He’s powerful and he’s explosive but we’ve been chatting about working on his complete game. He’s young, he’s got a lot to grow as a young player where he wants to be regarded as a good all-round player, not just a big play player.”

The eighth-placed Rhinos will be looking to secure their third win on the spin after recently beating Warrington and Wakefield.
