Leeds: Allardyce’s assistant makes ‘impossible job’ claim; club consider ‘the next Bielsa’ and Corberan
According to Karl Robinson, Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff were tasked with an “impossible job” at Leeds United as they were “plotting a miracle”.
The former MK Dons and Oxford United manager joined Leeds with Allardyce in May and they were given just four games to save the West Yorkshire side from relegation.
Under Allardyce, Leeds United managed to pick up just one point from a possible 12 as they suffered relegation on the final day of the 2022/23 campaign.
Allardyce had talks with Leeds United’s over staying at the club long-term but it was confirmed last week that the 68-year-old is moving on.
Robinson has now admitted that he and Allardyce “knew it would be so difficult” to keep Leeds in the Premier League.
“It was almost an impossible job, but we all have that ego going in and plotting a miracle,” Robinson said on talkSPORT.
“That’s not naivety or stupidity, we thought we could do it even though we knew it’d be so difficult.”
When asked what he was doing when Allardyce asked him to join him at Elland Road, Robinson added, “I was playing golf and I got a phone call from the gaffer [Allardyce] to say what are you doing? I said I was playing golf.
“He said can you get yourself up to Leeds tonight. He said he was going in for the last four games of the season. I actually think I said ‘are you mad?’ He said get yourself up here tonight and we’ll have a conversation. I got in my car and drove to Yorkshire.”

A report from Football Insider claims ‘West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan is on the shortlist at Leeds United as they search for their next boss’.
Corberan previously worked as a coach at Leeds during Marcelo Bielsa’s time at the club. In recent years, he has enjoyed successful spells at Huddersfield Town and West Brom.
The Baggies boss ‘is seen as ideal by club chiefs if the Yorkshire side want to undertake a long-term project’ and ‘his long-term future at The Hawthorns has been thrown into doubt amid a backdrop of financial issues at the club’.
The report adds: ‘Leeds have also shortlisted Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson in the search for their next manager.
‘A well-placed Whites source has told this site that he is increasingly seen as “the next Bielsa” by those inside the club.’
