Leeds United and Barcelona have confirmed they have reached an agreement in principle for Raphinha to seal his long-awaited Camp Nou move.

The 25-year-old’s future emerged this summer as one of the key sagas of the transfer window. And following a standout spell at Elland Road, he has finally got his dream move.

Barca had long-term interest in the Brazilian, who made a move to Xavi’s side his priority.

It looked at one stage as if Arsenal or Chelsea might hijack the transfer and keep Raphinha in the Premier League. However, the winger only wanted Barcelona, with Leeds and the La Liga side eventually coming to an agreement.

Indeed, Barca have agreed to pay Leeds an initial £49million, potentially rising to £57.6million with add-ons.

Barcelona’s transfer confirmation statement on Wednesday read: “FC Barcelona and Leeds United Football Club have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Raphael Dias Belloli, Raphinha, pending the player passing his medical.”

Leeds also pointed to the player’s medical tests as the deal’s final hurdle.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reported on Tuesday that Raphinha will fly out to Spain on Wednesday to finalise the transfer.

The goalscorer will sign a five-year contract with Barcelona, where he will look to emulate a host of iconic Brazilians to have played for the Blaugrana.

Raphinha top-scored for Leeds last season with 11 goals and will look to add more next season on his new venture.

His move to Barca caps a fantastic rise for him, following Leeds signing him from Rennes in 2020.

Raphinha gets Barcelona transfer wish

Chelsea and Arsenal both came forward with serious interest in Raphinha. And they were prepared to pay more than what Barcelona have.

However, Barca agreed personal terms with the player – whose advisor is former midfielder Deco – earlier this year.

And that won the day for them in the end. Raphinha always wanted to move to the La Liga side, despite the offers from the Premier League clubs.

He will now look to flourish in the exciting attacking ranks Xavi has put together at Camp Nou.

As well as Raphinha, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati are looking to prove themselves.

Ousmane Dembele is also signing a new two-year contract to bolster Barca’s ranks.
