Leeds United will tell Newcastle to stump up more than their planned £20million bid for Jack Harrison, according to a report.

The Magpies are looking to bolster their attacking ranks this summer as their next top priority. They have added to their goalkeeping and defensive ranks, but manager Eddie Howe wants more goals.

However, goalscorers don’t come cheap – as Newcastle have found out. Their targets include Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Alexander Isak of Real Sociead.

But Sociedad want over £50million for their Sweden international, with Leverkusen valuing Diaby at £60million.

As a result, Leeds’ Harrison has emerged as a lower-cost alternative. Although, Newcastle will likely find that deal tough too.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle are planning a £20million bid for the 25-year-old.

But Leeds will hold out for more, not just because of their valuation on him. Indeed, they have already lost last season’s top scorer Raphinha to a big-money Barcelona move.

Harrison, who scored 10 goals, was Leeds‘ second-most-prolific attacker last term. Jesse Marsch will therefore insist that he wants to keep hold of the attacker, or lose him for a top fee.

Why Newcastle want Jack Harrison

The Daily Mail adds that it is Harrison’s versatility which has attracted the attention of Newcastle boss Howe.

He is most known for playing as a winger but can also feature as a wing-back and out wide on either side.

Harrison honed his skillset under former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, who was resourceful in how he used his players.

Leeds had the Englishman on loan for three seasons before signing him permanently in the summer of 2021.

Harrison has played 166 times for Leeds, scoring 28 goals. He netted their first goal upon their return to the Premier League in 2020 against Liverpool.

Leeds must keep versatile star

Leeds must keep Harrison this summer, especially after losing Raphinha.

Not only was he their second-top-scorer last season, the fact that he can play in a wide variety of positions makes him a key member of the squad.

After three loans and only one full season as a contracted Leeds player, he will be itching to prove himself.

Harrison will also be looking to respond to the fresh competition at Leeds with Luis Sinisterra. The Whites are looking to add another goalscorer before the transfer window shuts.

All in all, Harrison has impressed at Leeds since he signed and deserves to prove himself again next term.
