Daniel Farke refused to be drawn on the prospect of Leeds United bringing Archie Gray back to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

The Whites were left "heartbroken" after selling academy prospect Gray to Tottenham Hotspur in a £40m deal after the Premier League big boys triggered the youngster's release clause. Gray was a first team regular in United's run to the Championship play-off final last term.

But the England Under-21 international has found regular game time hard to come by in North London. He started last night's Europa League tie with AZ Alkmaar but is still waiting to be handed his first top flight start.

It emerged earlier this week that La Liga outfit Sevilla are looking at the possibility of signing Gray on loan in the New Year. It remains unclear whether Spurs will allow Gray to leave on a temporary basis in search of regular first team football.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's trip to Bristol City, United boss Farke said: "I don’t speak about other players who are under contract at other clubs. I’m a bit reluctant to do any comments who are not under contract anymore. Our fingers are crossed for Archie and his whole career. If you want some recommendation, he already has my telephone number but I keep it pretty private what I recommend."

Gray has featured eight times for Tottenham this season. "It’s always a challenge if you join a top eight Premier League club, top class players in positions, players who are signed for incredible money, all want to play," said Farke. "Archie was involved in pre-season and has been involved in several Europa League games.

"A squad of 30 players, only 11 can start a game. I didn’t expect an 18 year old player from the second tier to take the Premier League by storm. I think Archie has impressed how far I can judge it, in the beginning of the season. It’s not up to me to judge his performances, I also don’t want to take part in any speculations after he’s just left us. I don't think it would be classy to do it."
