Leeds United moved back to the top of the Championship following their hard-fought 3-1 win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday. Daniel Farke's side had won seven straight home matches prior to the visit of fifth-place Boro and they made it eight in a row by edging past Michael Carrick's men at Elland Road.

There was a buzz around the fixture with second hosting fifth and it was Leeds who managed to land the first blow. Wilfried Gnonto gave the Whites the lead in the 14th minute, pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area before bundling home from close range. Leeds were dominant throughout most of the first half and could have scored more, with Daniel James and Gnonto having further opportunities.

However, Boro smelt blood in the second half and levelled in the 54th minute. A dangerous in-swinging corner from Dan Barlaser was headed into his own net by Max Wober. After a rare lull in the game, Leeds seemed to gain a second wind after Farke made a couple of changes and they went back in front with 16 minutes to go. Having missed a golden chance moments before, James made amends with a fine strike into the top corner.

Middlesbrough pushed to find a leveller, but Leeds managed to catch them on the break and find a third as Brenden Aaronson tapped home. The result means that the Whites move two points clear at the top of the Championship ahead of Sheffield United's game against Millwall on Wednesday.
