A clause in the contract of Leeds Utd new boy Marc Roca has been confirmed by the German press, and Jesse Marsch will be praying it’s triggered on multiple occasions.

Leeds United acted quickly to secure several direct replacements in the event their star players left. Indeed, Marc Roca and Tyler Adams were signed either side of Kalvin Phillips’ departure to Man City.

In the forward ranks, Luis Sinisterra joined from Feyenoord last week in anticipation Raphinha’s time in West Yorkshire was up.

The Brazilian’s move to Barcelona is all but confirmed and the Spanish giant recently released a statement addressing the imminent transfer.

USA international Adams looks the most like-for-like replacement for Phillips. However, Roca will also have a part to play and may yet feature alongside the ex-RB Leipzig star.

Roca signed from Bayern Munich for an initial £10m, though that figure could rise pending add-ons.

Now, German outlet Bild have confirmed the nature of those add-ons and why Leeds will be hopeful they’re triggered.

Marc Roca contract clause explained

They reported Leeds will pay Bayern Munich €1.25m (approx. £1.05m) for every 25 appearances Roca makes.

The payments will continue until Roca has featured 100 times, meaning Leeds could be on the hook for another £4.2m at the current exchange rate.

Regardless, Leeds will be hopeful the extra payments are activated as it would mean Roca is thriving at Elland Road.

If the Spaniard struggles it stands to reason he’ll never reach the higher targets.

Leeds arrivals not finished?

Marsch made it a priority to add greater depth to a squad that was threadbare under Marcelo Bielsa at times.

That looks a wise move on paper, especially given their two best players – Phillips and Raphinha – will both have left.

Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Roca, Darko Gybai, Adams and Sinisterra have all arrived. However, an injury crisis at full-back could prompt a seventh signing.

Junior Firpo is expected to miss eight weeks after picking up an injury during pre-season. Both Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling are also on the treatment table after undergoing knee operations.

As such, Marsch recently confirmed Leeds may yet dip into the market for reinforcements at left-back. Once the Raphinha deal crosses the line, they’ll have the financial means to splash more cash.
