Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has backed Southampton to turn their fortunes around after a difficult start to life back in the Premier League.

The Saints returned to the English top flight in August but sit bottom of the table after just one win from the first 11 games of the season.

However, England international Ramsdale, who made the move to the South Coast in July after three years with Arsenal, is hoping to draw on his own previous experiences to help transform the Saints' fortunes this season.

"It is very frustrating but I've been in similar situations out on loan and when I was a younger goalkeeper," Ramsdale told the Daily Echo. "They have allowed me to equip things for my mentality or to deal with things in a certain way. I have a lot of experience to deal with that.

"I know the fact of what we're trying to do and how we're trying to do it on the pitch and how we can eradicate these things.

"I can slowly see throughout games how we're starting to stamp authority for periods. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be conceding three.

"But I've been in situations like it before and it's just falling on the wrong side of the coin. I think if we invited people down to training, they'd understand that."

Ramsdale, though, could be missing from Southampton's upcoming games after having to withdraw from the England squad for Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland after suffering an injury.

He has played nine games for the Saints since his £18m from the Gunners, including a start at the Emirates in Southampton's 3-1 defeat to his former side.
