Leicester City have been named as shock suitors for Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries, who is on the radar of major English clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea.

Dumfries has proven he has the ability to play for one of the biggest teams in Europe. He has impressed for the Netherlands at both the Euros and World Cup, while also becoming one of the best wing-backs in Italy during his time at Inter.

Dumfries’ Inter contract does not expire until June 2025. But it is unlikely he will see that through as he is so often linked with a move away from Serie A.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the Dutchman. On Saturday, it emerged that Inter are bracing themselves for a Man Utd offer for Dumfries and have therefore begun looking at a replacement. The player they want is Club Brugge ace Tajon Buchanan.

Earlier this month, Inter Live claimed Chelsea would be the ‘very probable’ winners of a bidding war for Dumfries in the summer. Inter are holding out for €60m (£53.5m) when letting the wide man go, but his transfer fee could exceed this sum if that bidding war gets heated.

It was recently claimed Arsenal had muscled in on the chase for Dumfries. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has rejected those rumours by telling CaughtOffside: “Despite reports to the contrary, at the moment I’m not aware of any negotiation between Arsenal and Inter for Dumfries.

“They are exploring right-back options and Ivan Fresneda remains appreciated, they are sending scouts regularly to follow him.

“But Dumfries has completely different value for Inter and at the moment his situation is still quiet.”

Leicester want top Inter Milan performer

Leicester will be happy to hear that Arsenal are not involved in the Dumfries pursuit as they are apparently preparing to swoop in for him. As per Sport Witness, who cite Inter Live, Leicester will provide Man Utd and Chelsea with serious competition for the signing this summer.

Brendan Rodgers’ side ‘could really have their say’ by entering negotiations with Inter before any of his other potential suitors.

And Rodgers has a trick up his sleeve to make Inter sing. He is willing to include Timothy Castagne as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Dumfries.

The Nerazzurri would like this proposal as it would see them bring in some money as well as getting an immediate replacement for Dumfries.

However, the deal reaching completion will depend on how much money Leicester put on the table in addition to Castagne. If it is way below Inter’s valuation then the Italian side will reject it out of hand.

It would be a huge shock if Leicester got to the 42-cap international ahead of Man Utd and Chelsea. They would be improving the quality of their starting eleven greatly as Dumfries has shown he is a classy operator who has the ability to shine in the Champions League.

Rodgers has ambitions of getting the Foxes back into Europe next season. And snaring Dumfries would be a great way to kickstart that process.
