Leicester City's Champions League adventure may have come to an end on Tuesday night, but the players enhanced their reputations on the European stage, and the bond between team and supporters grew stronger than ever.

Defeat to one of the best teams in Europe was no disgrace and, for the second half at least, Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid team were given a mauling by the Champions of England.

When the Foxes fell behind to Saúl Ñíguez's brilliant header, it was striking how many of the Leicester team roared in defiance, asking their fans to get behind them as they began a virtually insurmountable task. It did in the end prove a bridge too far, even for the team that won the League at odds of 5,000-1.

But Leicester's fans stayed until the very end (a refreshing change from the entitled early departures of some more fashionable crowds) and let the team know exactly how proud they were of them.

This chapter of the Leicester story now closes, but Jamie Vardy, Wes Morgan and the rest have given their fans memories that will last a lifetime.
