Reports claim Brendan Rodgers is monitoring Monaco winger Sofiane Diop and may look to make a move in the summer transfer window.

The Foxes rallied to finish eighth in the Premier League table after an up-and-down campaign. They ended with three wins and a draw from their last four games but never won more than two consecutive league games throughout 2021-2022. And the East Midlanders have been tipped to shake things up in the off-season.

A number of areas need strengthening and Diop is said to be on the radar. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a couple of outstanding seasons for the principality outfit.

He dipped his toe in the water with 13 outings in 2018-2019. But the talented youngster has been handed 48 starts among 62 Ligue 1 appearances over the past two seasons.

He bagged seven goals in 2020-21 and six in the season just finished to help Monaco finish third in the table. Unsurprisingly clubs have taken note, with Leicester ‘investigating’ a possible summer swoop.

That is according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who suggests he could be available for around £20m.

Diop plays on the left wing but has been deployed on the opposite flank as well. And, with Leicester known to be in the market for a right-sided midfielder, Diop could be a versatile addition.

Along with his goals, the France Under-21 ace also provided five assists last term. He would be an exciting recruit to the Foxes ranks but much will depend on other players.

Diop an alternative to Lookman

Ademola Lookman spent last season on loan at King Power Stadium. He scored eight goals from 42 appearances in all competitions.

The Nigeria star operates on the left wing and has been linked with a permanent switch from RB Leipzig. His capture would mean Diop having to play on the right, but he has shown himself quite capable of doing that for Monaco.

Despite his tender years, Diop has made 15 appearances in European football, featuring eight times in the Champions League. He has also played seven times in the Europa League and scored in both competitions.

The future of Youri Tielemans is also very much up in the air, with the likes of Arsenal said to be keen. There is still a long way to go in the current transfer window.

And it could be that Leicester’s midfield has a very different look about it by the time of the big kick-off in August.
