Manchester City return to Premier League action following the international break with a tough trip to Leicester in a repeat of the Community Shield.

These two sides previously squared off in the 2021/22 season curtain-raiser in early August, with Kelechi Iheanacho's late penalty against his former club sealing more glory for Brendan Rodgers’ FA Cup holders.

Pep Guardiola’s defending champions have bounced back in fine style after losing that clash at Wembley and on the opening day at Tottenham, with both Norwich and Arsenal put firmly to the sword in respective 5-0 thrashings.

However, once again City must operate for an extended period with only one senior recognised striker on the books after failing in their summer-long pursuit to prise England captain Harry Kane away from Tottenham, though as ever goals certainly do not look like they will be hard to come by for this expensively-assembled squad.

Leicester opened the season with a narrow win at Wolves and also beat newly-promoted Norwich last time out thanks to Marc Albrighton’s decisive effort at Carrow Road, though those victories were sandwiched in-between a horror show at West Ham, where they were thrashed 4-1 on a Monday night following Caglar Soyuncu’s red card.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Leicester vs Manchester City is scheduled for a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

The match will be played at the King Power Stadium.

Where to watch Leicester vs Man City

Due to the return of English football’s 3pm blackout this season, Leicester vs Manchester City will not be broadcast live on TV in the UK.

Highlights will be available via Match of the Day, which is on BBC One from 10:40pm on Saturday night and on iPlayer.

Leicester vs Man City team news

Man City could be without Ederson and Gabriel Jesus this weekend after the Brazilian FA asked Fifa to invoke rules which prevent players from representing their clubs for five days following an international break where the clubs have not released their players to their countries.

Ederson’s understudy Zak Steffen tested positive for Covid-19 while away on international duty with the United States, meaning Guardiola faces something of a goalkeeper crisis, with third-string Scott Carson, 36, potentially in line to start.

However, City could be boosted by the return of both Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden to the squad at Leicester, with both players now back in training after ankle and foot injuries respectively suffered at Euro 2020.

Aymeric Laporte is nursing an adductor injury, while fellow centre-back Nathan Ake’s availability is uncertain at this stage after he withdrew from the Netherlands squad this week for private reasons. John Stones shook off a first-half knock during England’s draw in Poland.

Leicester have also dealt with an array of injury problems this term and will hope to have the likes of Jonny Evans, Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard back this weekend.

Ricardo Pereira’s hamstring injury is not said to be serious, but long-term absentees James Justin and Wesley Fofana are sidelined, while a proposed loan move to Galatasaray for Nampalys Mendy fell through this week.

Ademola Lookman could make his Leicester debut after joining on loan from RB Leipzig in Germany.
