Leon Balogun has reportedly signed a new one-year contract extension with Rangers.

The veteran defender, 35, was re-signed by Michael Beale last summer as he returned to Ibrox for a second spell following 12 months at QPR. Experienced Balogun has always made it clear he wanted to extend his stay at the club but with Gers preparing for an end of season overhaul, the out-of-contract stopper was at risk of departing.

However, The Scottish Sun reports that Balogun's performances have impressed Philippe Clement and the Nigerian international has penned a deal that will see him continue with the club next season.

Gers are set to bolster their central-defensive options over the coming weeks and it's believed Levski Sofia stopper Jose Cordoba is top of their wishlist. The Light Blues also have John Souttar, Connor Goldson, Ben Davies and Leon King on the books, but it's likely at least one of them will leave. While utility man Dujon Sterling is also capable of playing in central defence.

John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack and John McLaughlin are all out of contract and loan trio Fabio Silva, Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes are due to return to their parent clubs. However, Clement has admitted he'd like to keep Sima and Cortes at the club.
