Leonard, Dykes, Yokoyama - Predicted Birmingham City XI as Chris Davies outlines his intention
If Chris Davies could, he'd likely make even more changes to his Birmingham City starting XI if those who are currently sitting on the sidelines were available to him. Blues head to Blackpool in the second round of the FA Cup on Sunday still missing a number of senior personnel through injury, but Davies intends to ring the changes regardless.
The Blues boss, who inspired his side to a rapid response in the week as they conquered Exeter City following the disappointment at Shrewsbury Town, has another game coming on Wednesday night and then Blues are in action again next Saturday, as December begins how it will end - with a congested schedule. To that end, the plan is to hand minutes at Bloomfield Road to those who mightn't have been subjected to as many as others.
The reasoning is two-fold; first of all, as mentioned, it's to balance out the minutes in the squad and spread the responsibilities across the group at Davies' disposal. Equally, it's about ensuring that those knocking at the door are given their chance to suitably impress and make Davies think just a little bit harder when League One football swings back around days later.

"That's going to be really important for us," he said, when asked of how he is considering to utilise his squad. "We're at that stage of the season, December and January time, when the games come thick and fast. We need to use all the players in the squad, that'll be important so we can expect a bit of that. A number of players have played and contributed well, but they haven't played every minute of every game.
"Without giving any names away, we're going to need to use the squad absolutely. We have a couple of league games next week, Wednesday and Saturday, but I think you also have to focus your energy on the next game - it's the most important one. That's what we'll be focusing on."
Blues are without Alfons Sampsted, Scott Wright and Emil Hansson who, to a man, would have likely been in line to be involved against Steve Bruce's Seasiders. Lee Buchanan remains some way off returning, too, so Alex Cochrane - who has made the left-back spot his own and has continued admirably without the cover afforded to others - could well be asked to go again.
Elsewhere, giving a break - at least from the off - to the likes of Paik Seung-ho, Jay Stansfield, Christoph Klarer and Willum Willumsson is plausible as Davies considers all of his options, although he communicated that he hopes for an FA Cup run and whichever Blues side is selected on Sunday, it will be with sent out to beat their hosts and progress into the third round draw.
