Le'Veon Bell's prom date promise to one hopefulSteelers fan appears to have hit a snag.
Pittsburgh's star running back agreed over the weekendto attendhigh school prom with Ava Tarantino, a 17-year-old junior at Waukesha West in Wisconsinwho'd won a Twitter re-tweetbet to bring Bell as her date. But school officials are uneasy about the arrangement, citing district policy that bansdance guests with a history of drug or alcohol violations.
Bell, 26, also exceeds the district'sage restriction of 19.
Waukesha School District spokeswoman Terry Schuster told the Appleton Post-CrescentthatBell is welcome at other prom events such as thegrand march and photo sessions with Tarantino, but cannot attend the dance itself.
"You can Google Mr. Bell," Schuster said in a statement, apparently referring to Bell's2014 arrest on marijuana possession and DUI charges.
"We have to be equitable in the way we treat our students," she added.
Bell served a two-game suspension from the NFL to start the 2015 season for the infraction and has since completed hisprobation program.
He also served a suspension in 2016 forviolating the NFL'ssubstance-abuse policy by missing follow-up drug tests.
Tarantino, a lifelong Steelers fan, originally reached out to Bell on Twitter as a dare. If she could get 500 retweets, Bell would have to attend her prom. Bell responded,"600 & it's a deal." The tweet has since generated more than 2,000 retweets.

Tarantino told thePost-Crescent Thursday that Bell has been in touch and has agreed to attend all of the events, but not the dance.
“He said he’s coming for sure. I’m so excited,”she said.
