Levi Colwill makes four-word Chelsea admission and makes Enzo Maresca fear factor confession

"We're battering most teams."

Four words from Levi Colwill that shows the confidence within the Chelsea squad right now. The 21-year-old defender has been an integral part in the Blues' turnaround in form this season under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

After the opening 12 matches of the Premier League season, Chelsea sit in third-place, just a single point behind champions Manchester City. The Blues are also top of the UEFA Conference League table with a 100% record in the opening four matches.

Colwill, who has become an established England international this season because of his form, has played every single minute in the Premier League in 2024/25. Despite being an unused substitute in Thursday night's Conference League win against FC Heidenheim, Colwill stuck around and spoke to journalists afterwards.

"It's due to the manager," Colwill replied when asked where the Chelsea 'chaos' has gone this season. "He's come in and given us that confidence. He's set us up amazingly and we're going into games and, it's fair to say, we're battering most teams.

"We're playing really good football. People are not looking at us with a question mark anymore. They know we’re gonna play good football and try to win games. That is what we have been doing so far this season."

There has certainly been a difference in approach from opposition when playing against Chelsea under Maresca. The Blues usually dominate possession against the majority of teams and this usually sees the opposition drop deeper - something Colwill understands.

He said: "Definitely, especially with the attacking threat we've got. I would be scared to play against us. The way we break teams down and create so many chances on goal is amazing.

"It's no shock. When you are playing really good football, teams are going to change to try and hurt you. We just have to keep adapting to it, keep playing our football and keep winning games."

Colwill has been arguably Chelsea's most consistent defender this term and it helps an untold amount that he is now being used in a more natural position at centre-back. Under Mauricio Pochettino last season, the England defender was deployed for the most part at left-back.

"Yeah, definitely," Colwill said when asked if he is happier being played in the centre. "Like I always say, I will happily play anywhere for the team, but I like to be put in the position where I can play my football, show my skills and be able to show everyone what I can do basically.

"That is what I have been doing this season because of the manager. I'm hoping it carries on."
