Lewis Ferguson injury return on hold after Bologna see AC Milan clash postponed over safety concerns
Lewis Ferguson's long-awaited comeback for Bologna has been delayed after the side's Serie A meeting with AC Milan on Saturday had to be postponed.
The I Rossoblu skipper has been out of action since suffering a serious knee injury last April that robbed him of the chance of representing Scotland at Euro 2024. The former Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies midfielder has returned to first team training and reports in Italy had claimed that the 25-year-old was due to be named amongst the substitutes for the visit of giants Milan at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Saturday evening.
However after heavy rain and flooding rocked the city of Bologna in the Emiliano Romagna region, a decision was taken between Serie A officials and representatives from both clubs that the game could not take place due to safety concerns. There had been some speculation amongst the Italian press that the match could have been played behind closed doors at a neutral venue, but the league have confirmed that the fixture has been postponed indefinitely, with a new date for the rearranged game yet to be confirmed.

Ferguson - who was linked with big money moves to Napoli and Juventus last season - may not have too much longer to wait to make his return, with Bologna next in action away to Cagliari on Tuesday (October 29). They then host struggling Lecce four days later before welcoming Ligue 1 high-flyers Monaco to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on matchday four of the Champions League on Tuesday, November 5.
