Lewis Hall threatened to earn the wrath of Chelsea supporters on social media after toasting Newcastle United's Carabao Cup win on Instagram. Hall, who left the Blues in 2023 after over a decade, played a starring role against his former club as Eddie Howe's men picked up a well-deserved 2-0 win at St James' Park.

Taking to Instagram after the clash, Hall posted a picture of him joining in the celebrations of his side's second goal, captioning the post: "Enjoyed that one" followed by a winking emoji. Chelsea fans were quick to vent their frustration in response, accusing their former youth product of disrespect with the celebratory post.

Hall, who has deep family ties to Newcastle, will care little as he begins to truly kick on at the north east outfit under the guidance of Howe. The left-back, 20, has had to be patient for a regular shot at left-back but has recently made the position his own with some stellar showings.

Hall spent the early part of this season battling it out with Lloyd Kelly for a starting spot on the left of the Newcastle defence but there is now no debate over who gets the nod in the Premier League at present. The youngster was a standout performer, yet again, as Newcastle advanced to the last eight of the Carabao Cup, just days after delivering an equally impressive display at his former stomping ground in the league.

Howe, in turn, has been keen to sing his praises, highlighting just how much progress Hall has made in a short period of time. “The thing with Lewis when we were looking at that deal was the lack of equal players in that position,” he said earlier this month.

“We took an opportunity to sign a young player who we knew would be growing and developing into the player he was going to become. And we wanted to grab that opportunity while we had it. We felt if we waited then it would possibly move beyond us.

“He took time to develop, as all young players do. He was so young when he came to us initially. But the growth in him at the back end of last season and the development in his game this season has been really strong. I’ve been really pleased with the way he’s played in the last few games.

"He’s adding layers and different strengths to his game. I can only see that improving, so I think it’s a great bit of business by us.”
