Lewis Young has signed a new two-year contract extension with Keighley, saying the club has helped him fall back in love with the sport.
Young joined on a one-year deal ahead of 2022 from the Newcastle Thunder. He has now put pen to paper to extend his stay at Cougar Park until the end of the 2024 season.
He has scored five tries in eight appearances so far for the club in 2022.
“I’m over the moon to be re-signing with the club for the next two years,” said Young.
“I have loved my time with the club so far and I am looking forward to my future with the club.
“I fell out of love with rugby league and coming to Keighley has put the spark back into myself. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far because the system we play suits the way I like to play as an individual, the fans are great, and I’m playing with my mates.
“If we carry on the way we are, we should be playing in the Championship next season.”
Head of rugby Andrew Henderson on retaining Lewis Young
Keighley head of rugby Andrew Henderson said: “Lewis took a chance coming here in the first place when he had better offers both in League 1 and the Championship.
“But he believed we could him get back to enjoying his rugby league again as well as improving his all-round game.
“I feel we have ticked those boxes and been rewarded with consistent improved performances this season from Lewis.
“Personally, I think he is an exciting talent who has a lot more growth in his game to come.
“I feel that we have only just scratched the surface with him, so I am excited to see the coaching team further his development over the next two years and support this.
“From a team perspective it is important we have some continuity with our spine going into next season and Lewis has made the full-back position his this season.”
