Liam Gallagher was branded 'silly' by Yoko Ono for naming his son Lennon

Liam Gallagher was on the receiving end of Yoko Ono’s criticism when she heard he had named his son Lennon.

John Lennon's widow suggested the name was "silly" when they met in 1999, the year his son was born, but Gallagher, 47, didn't see a problem with it.

“Yoko said, ‘I’ve heard you’ve called your son Lennon’," he told The Mirror.

“I said, ‘Yeah’, she said, ‘Why? Do you not think it’s a bit of a silly name?’

“And I said, ‘No, it’s a bit silly being called Yoko isn’t it? So Lennon it is'," he claims to have told the Japanese musician.

Gallagher added that after Ono, 87, raised concerns the child might be teased, he said: "Nah man, he’ll be buzzing with that name.”

In addition to 20-year-old Lennon, whom he shares with first wife Patsy Kensit, Gallagher is also father to Molly Moorish, 22, whom he fathered during an affair with Lisa Moorish while married to Kensit.

They first met in 2018 and he went on to dedicate song Now That I've Found You from his 2019 album Why Me? Why Not? to his daughter.

Gallagher and All Saints singer Nicole Appleton welcomed son Gene in 2001 before tying the knot in 2008.

Their marriage came to an end in 2014 when they officially divorced. During the marriage, Gallagher had fathered a daughter born in 2013, Gemma, while having an affair with US journalist Liza Ghorbani.

Last year he said while he had still not yet met Gemma, he would like to do so.

He's currently engaged to Debbie Gwyther although they have had to delay their nuptials that were set to take place in Italy over the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.
