Liam Kelly Rangers transfer path opens up as Motherwell confirm captain's exit

Liam Kelly's path to signing for Rangers has been opened up as Motherwell confirmed his exit.

The Steelmen's captain is out of contract and failed to agree new terms and with links to Ibrox emerging this week, he now becomes a free agent. The Scotland goalkeeper has been at Park permanently for three years after making a previous loan permanent but now moves on.

Kelly is now expected to sign for the Light Blues six years after quitting the club where he came through the academy in search of first team football. He didn't make a first-team appearance last time before heading to Livingston which was then followed by spells at QPR and Well.

The reports earlier this week suggested a deal was already done with the 28-year-old agreeing to make the move after talks with Philippe Clement. An announcement could therefore be imminent with his Motherwell exit now confirmed.

The Steelmen confirmed their end-of-season departures with Kelly leading them along with Blair Spittal, who has already signed for Hearts. The others are Callan Elliot, Calum Butcher, Barry Maguire.

Paul McGinn and Aston Oxborough have agreed new deals while Matty Connelly, Stephen O’Donnell, Bevis Mugabi, Callum Slattery and Sam Nicholson are still in talks with the club.
