Speculation this week has been that management is looking to trim the squad’s overall size by as many as nine players, with a number of youngster out on loan expected not to return.
The futures of both David Villa and Alexis Sanchez have also been continually speculated as away from the Camp Nou, but the team’s first-choice right-back believes this should be the last thing to consider.
“If it were up to me, I would strengthen the squad, and not sell what we have because we are very happy with them,” commented Alves to DPA this week.
“They are great professionals and that’s what counts. Then, everything is a consequence of the performance.”
Alves was inevitably asked for comment on the prospect of Neymar arriving this summer. The Barca man has been vocally supportive in recent months at the possibility, but took the chance to once more indicate that he is quietening down.
“It’s an issue that I have parked. I do not want to talk about it because every time I do, it makes a mess.”
